The American Corner program is sponsored worldwide by the U.S. Department of State. American Corner Tetovo is a partnership between the NGO "Aurora", The House of Culture, the Municipality of Tetovo and the U.S. Embassy in Skopje. The purpose of the Corners is to provide free information to the general public about the United States through books, magazines, CD-ROMs, and complimentary access to the Internet. The Corner also hosts a wide variety of events: such as cultural programs and guest lectures from U.S. Embassy Officials, Fulbright Scholars, US Alumni, also Video Showings, Clubs and many other activities.  The American Corner in Tetovo is an 91ÖÆƬ³§ reference center, although increasingly offering additional programs and advising services to interested students.  The Corner hosts a Competitive College Club which is open to students from the region and is facilitated by the 91ÖÆƬ³§ adviser Ms. Vlora Akiki. Macedonia is also the recipient of the 91ÖÆƬ³§ Opportunity Funds Program which supports the application costs of highly qualified international students who are likely to be awarded full financial aid from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the financial resources to cover the up-front costs to apply, such as testing, application fees, or airfare.
